Why do we have root canal treatments? It is often used to stop further damage on a decaying tooth without removing the tooth itself. Instead, the decaying parts are taken out, so you can have the still healthy parts with you.

One of the major reasons for getting a root canal is infection in the tooth’s pulp. The pulp is the inner core of the tooth. It is softer than the outer layers and holds your tooth’s blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissues.

The pulp becomes endangered when bacteria enter it. They can enter in if your tooth breaks or if a cavity reaches the pulp, basically if the pulp ever gets exposed to infection.

As the bacteria kill the pulp, they can also cause an abscess. An abscess is a buildup of pus near the teeth roots. Abscesses can lead to further infection in the gums, teeth, and jawbone. They can lose you that tooth or even cause bone loss in the jaw.

A root canal treatment is used to remove these damaged areas in the pulp. The remainder is filled in to defend against further infection. This saves the rest of your tooth and avoids having to remove it totally.

Beforehand, teeth with dead or dying pulp had to be pulled out. With root canals, you do not have to do this. You can only have the dead parts taken out and keep what you have.

We hope this has helped you understand how root canals can help and be beneficial to you, though we recommend you hold to good oral hygiene so you have a better chance of keeping all your teeth in good shape.

If you ever have need of assistance to care for your teeth, come see Dr. Khashayar Khomejany, our dentists. You can locate them at Plaza Dental Care in Vallejo, California. You can set things up with us by calling 707-642-1360.

A poor oral hygiene condition in the mouth can cause tooth enamel demineralization. This, in turn, promotes the development of cavities and other oral health problems.

If you have a bad habit of putting off your regularly scheduled dental exams, an untreated area of tooth decay can continue to expand. In time, it could penetrate deep into the sensitive core structures of the tooth.

As this starts to happen you might notice a significant toothache. At the same time, the compromised structural integrity might cause a severe fracture or dental abscess complications that effectively lead to the total loss of the tooth.

If the remaining dental material is too severely distress for Dr. Khashayar Khomejany to treat the tooth with endodontic therapy, they might recommend a total extraction. This will extricate any remnants of the root before suturing the affected periodontal tissues.

Afterward, they might provide you with a prescription for antibiotics or pain management medication. This will help you remain comfortable while the periodontal tissues heal, while also reducing the chances of infection.

Once everything has fully healed Dr. Khashayar Khomejany might recommend replacing the tooth with a standard dental bridge. This single piece of dental work designed to replicate the original tooth. It will be fused to a pair of crowns capable of being anchored onto abutments prepared from the healthy cores of the two teeth neighboring the void.

An off-site dental lab will create the dental bridge then Dr. Khashayar Khomejany will cement it in place with a strong dental adhesive. This will complete the dental restoration process allowing you to enjoy the original function of the once compromised tooth.

If you live in the Vallejo, California, area and you have a tooth that is suffering from an untreated cavity, you should not delay in calling 707-642-1360 to seek professional treatment at Plaza Dental Care’s dental office.

If you aren’t consistent with your daily oral hygiene routine, or if you put off your routine dental checkups or recommended treatment with Dr. Khashayar Khomejany, a cavity could develop on one of your teeth. Early symptoms often include discomfort when chewing, tooth sensitivity, or a noticeable change in texture.

With early diagnosis, Dr. Khashayar Khomejany may recommend a composite or amalgam dental filling in Vallejo, California.

Amalgam dental fillings, which are also called silver fillings, are made from biologically safe metals. They are dark in color, so they are most often called for to repair a cavity that won’t appear in your smile. This blend of special dental grade metals has the durability to handle the daily functions of chewing and grinding.

A composite resin dental filling is made from a dental-grade resin that can be shaded to match tooth enamel. This makes it a good choice for repairing a cavity that is visible when you smile. Composite fillings are indistinguishable in your smile. Once our dentist has shaded the composite material, they will apply it in layers, curing each layer as it is placed.

If you’ve noticed a cavity on a tooth in your smile, you should call 707-642-1360 to have it treated by our dentist at Plaza Dental Care.

Although mouthwash should never be substituted as a replacement for either brushing or flossing your teeth, it remains a highly effective oral health care treatment tool to consider as a supplementary cleaning utensil for your oral health care.

Be aware that mouthwash products vary depending on the benefits they are seeking to achieve. Some mouthwash products focus on freshening breath, while others rely on whitening your teeth, providing fluoride treatments, or reducing plaque buildup.

When searching for a mouthwash product to use, always look for the ADA Seal of Acceptance. The seal is given out by the American Dental Association and signifies the product has met the highest standards of safety and efficiency. For additional product suggestions and recommendations, you can always speak with your dentist. No matter which product you choose, make sure that the mouthwash product meets the goals you’re looking for.

If you are looking to restore your smile with effective oral health care treatments, contact Dr. Khashayar Khomejany and our team at Plaza Dental Care. A filling really is nothing more than a way to restore a tooth that has been damaged from decay. At Plaza Dental Care, Dr. Khashayar Khomejany will remove the decayed tooth material, clean the area, and fill in the space with filling material. By doing this, the tooth will be restored to its proper shape and function, and bacteria will be prevented from getting into that space and causing more damage.

There are four types of fillings: gold, amalgam, composite and porcelain. Gold fillings are made to order in a lab and cemented into the tooth. Gums react well with gold fillings and they have been known to last for 20 years. Amalgam, or silver fillings are less expensive than gold and are long-lasting, but they are darker in appearance. Composite resin fillings can be matched to your tooth color. They are mixed and put directly into the cavity and harden in place. However, they can chip and wear out over time and may become stained. Porcelain fillings are made in a lab like gold fillings. They can also be matched to tooth color, and will resist staining.

Only a dentist can detect when and where you will need a filling and that will happen during an office visit. Dr. Khashayar Khomejany has several ways to detect cavities, and will be happy to discuss your options with you. The best way to keep from having to have that discussion with your dentist is to practice good dental hygiene, and to visit your dentist regularly for a checkup and cleaning. To schedule an exam at our office in Vallejo, California call us today at 707-642-1360.

Strong tooth enamel is the key to healthy teeth and avoiding problems with tooth decay and sensitivity. This is thanks to the dense mineral matrix that transforms your tooth enamel into a strong, protective shield. However, problems with your daily oral hygiene routine, failure to attend your regular dental checkup or a propensity for consuming acidic foods and beverages can weaken the mineral strength of your teeth.

This leaves your teeth increasingly vulnerable to bacterial tooth decay and tooth sensitivity.

One easy method to bolster the strength of your tooth enamel is to have Dr. Sean and Dr. Sepi administer a fluoride treatment at Plaza Dental Care. This introduces a potent amount of fluoride directly to your tooth enamel, bolstering the mineral density.

It can also help reduce the microscopic pores in your teeth that cause tooth sensitivity. It’s also important to note that while the fluoride treatment cannot reverse existing cavities, it can significantly reduce your chances of suffering a new cavity.

Reducing your consumption of acidic foods and beverages will go a long way toward preventing future demineralization effects. You should also brush your teeth with fluoride toothpaste that has earned the American Dental Association’s Seal of Acceptance.

Our dentists might also prescribe fluoride supplements to help you maintain healthy teeth on a daily basis. This often comes in the form of a concentrated fluoride toothpaste or fluoride mouthrinse.

If you live in the Vallejo, California, area and you’re concerned about the strength of your tooth enamel, you should call 707-642-1360 to explore your fluoride options at our office.

A filling is commonly used to repair a cavity that forms on a tooth. Amalgam and composite resin fillings have their own adhesive properties that hold them securely to the surrounding tooth enamel. Gold and porcelain fillings are held in place by a very powerful dental adhesive. While fillings are meant to last for a long time, no filling will last forever. As a rule of thumb, the older and larger a filling is, the more likely it is to develop a problem.

Early detection and treatment of a bad filling will decrease your chances of suffering complications. With that in mind, your dentist, Dr. Khashayar Khomejany, offers these common symptoms to look out for if you suspect one of your fillings is going bad.

If you have a bad filling on the biting surface of the tooth, you might notice a sharp pain when biting down or chewing. If the filling is near your tongue, you might feel it develop a sharp edge or a change in texture.

If pervasive bacteria have worked their way between the filling and the healthy enamel of the tooth, it might develop a light shade of gray in the nearby enamel.

If you suspect one of your fillings is in distress or about to fall out, you should call 707-642-1360 to schedule an appointment at Plaza Dental Care regarding a bad dental filling in Vallejo, California.

The world is chugging along at a supersonic pace with newer and greater inventions popping up all over the place. With the advent of so many amazing technologies, the world of oral health care has seen its own share of modern marvels. One of the greatest inventions that have come along is dental veneers.

Dental veneers can be crafted and customized to give you a long-lasting near perfect smile. Below are some questions and answers concerning veneers:

Question: How durable are dental veneers?
Answer: Dental veneers are extremely strong and durable. Despite their ultra-thin size, with the proper care, a single veneer can last well over a decade.

Question: What kind of flaws can veneers fix?
Answer: Veneers are placed on the front of your tooth, so nearly every type of tooth abnormality can be concealed. They can fix minor misalignments, permanent stains, discolorations, cracks, and even chipped teeth.

Question: Will veneers stand out from my natural teeth?
Answer: No, veneers are custom-crafted for each individual tooth, and can be color-matched to your other teeth. Their surface is also natural-looking, and when crafted by our team of amazing professionals at Plaza Dental Care, they are nearly impossible to notice.

Question: Do veneers hurt?
Answer: Veneers are often noted as being one of the most painless procedures in the dental industry. Many patients often experience no pain at all.

Dental veneers can improve your smile drastically in only a few short visits. Did you know that in the US this year, hundreds of millions of pounds of candy will be consumed? As we are busy going batty over all these sweets, many may find themselves being spooked by a cavity or two. Avoid tooth decay, and consider the following list of sweets to limit this season:

– Sticky Candy: Exercise care when consuming sticky candies such as taffy, caramels, or gummies, as they can easily stick to your teeth and gums. They can also be difficult to remove, which can rapidly increase tooth decay.
– Popcorn Balls: Popcorn balls can be dangerous if they are too hard, so be careful when biting into them. It is also recommended to floss regularly after consumption, as bits of popcorn can easily be lodged between the teeth.
– Hard Candy: Hard candy should be avoided. They can break or chip teeth, and residue often ends up stuck to your teeth longer, which can rapidly increase tooth decay.
– Sour Candy: Due to their high acidic content, sour candies are some of the most dangerous treats to your precious teeth. Due to its acidic nature (nearly the same as battery acid), there is a high risk of cavities and enamel loss.

For an alternative, chocolate washes off easier than most other candies, so don’t be afraid to switch out a few of the above with some chocolate. Also, sugarless gum is a great way to clean your sparkly whites after some sugary snacks. As always, be sure to brush and floss.

Plaza Dental Care wishes you all a safe and happy Halloween!
If you would like to book an appointment, please call us at 707-642-1360, or stop by our office in Vallejo, California. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Did you know that clenching your teeth, which is also known as bruxism, can occur while you’re sleeping or when you’re awake? This issue can actually lead to a number of serious issues. Sadly, many people clench their teeth without realizing what they’re doing. This is especially problematic because you may clench your teeth while you’re resting.

Sadly, there are a number of issues you may have to deal with if you have bruxism. For instance, your enamel could wear down, which may leave you more vulnerable to tooth decay. Furthermore, clenching your teeth could lead to tension headaches or even migraines. Similarly, clenching your teeth could lead to chipped or fractured teeth. In fact, if you have bruxism, you could actually lose all of your teeth.

Fortunately, even though you could be clenching your teeth unwillingly, there are a few symptoms you can watch for. For instance, as a result of teeth grinding, you could face dull headaches, especially after you sleep. Your mouth and muscles may frequently feel sore. Sadly, you may also experience pain in your ear, damage to the insides of your cheeks, and even indentations on your tongue.

Still, if you have bruxism, there may be a few other things you can do to help you deal with the issue. However, because bruxism can be the result of a variety of problems, you’ll need to visit a dentist in order to enjoy the best options. One common solution is to have a custom mouth guard created. Similarly, if your bruxism is caused by misaligned teeth, realigning them may work as well.

If you’re interested in learning more about bruxism, please feel free to give Plaza Dental Care at 707-642-1360. Dr. Khashayar Khomejany and our team will be happy to answer any questions you may have. We’re eager to hear from you soon.
